PIC: Drone image of famous Cork landmark looks remarkably like Abe Lincoln’s head

Conor Heneghan

It really is uncanny.

If you’re from the area or have ever been there on holidays, chances are you’ve paid a visit to Gougane Barra in Cork, a short distance from the Kerry border and a short spin from the village of Ballingeary.

There’s a forest park with lovely walking trails and it’s also home to the remains of the beautiful St Finbarr’s monastery, built in the sixth century and currently a very popular wedding venue.

The area now has another and rather unusual claim to fame after journalist Janet Newenham noticed something quite remarkable when trying out a drone for the first time recently and sent us in the pictures.

Ridiculous as it might sound, it’s hard not to look at the picture below and not think of one of the most famous Presidents in the history of the United States, Abraham Lincoln.

The hair, the beard, the nose and even the mouth, it really has everything.

Surely the closest resemblance to honest Abe you’ll find this side of the White House and Mount Rushmore.
