Lionel Messi’s ankle injury, which he picked up in Barcelona’s 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon Stadium, is not as bad as it originally appeared to be.
Messi had to be stretchered off in the second half, following Tomas Ujfalusi horrendous tackle.
The Czech was deservedly sent off, while Messi was carted off to the Hospital de Barcelona.
Tests conducted on Messi have had positive results, however, and although a scan revealed ankle ligament damage, his ankle is not broken.
The 23-year-old Argentinean should only miss two weeks of action now, though he will definitely miss Barcelona’s match against Sporting Gijon on Wednesday as well as their contest versus Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.
