Drive safely out there.
As part of the Christmas and New Year road safety campaign, An Garda Síochána has been using social media to highlight how many people are speeding on Irish roads during the holiday period.
In the last 48 hours, Gardaí speed cameras have caught over 800 drivers in total breaking the speed limit. Yesterday (29 December) out of 101,612 vehicles monitored by the safety cameras, 361 vehicles were caught breaking the speed limit.
The number was even higher on Friday (28 December), when out of 109,931 vehicles monitored by the safety cameras, 458 vehicles were detected driving in excess of the speed limit.
The figures get worse if you include the 27 December, when a further 476 vehicles were caught speeding, meaning the the total over the last three days is well over 1,000.
Some of the speeds record include 92km/h in a 50km/h, and 148km/h in a 100km/h zone.
