The nominees for the very worst movies of last year have been announced

Michael Lanigan

Quite a few Oscar winners on this year’s list.

While never the most unpredictable of the annual film awards, the Golden Raspberries/Razzies can still throw out a few surprises every now and then.

The announcement of the 2018 Razzie nominees has done just that, as a number of otherwise acclaimed and beloved names have made an appearance on the lists.

And largely, it is down to one word: mother!

Yes, the movie that Requiem for a Dream/Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky wrote after coming up with the title first, mother! has scooped nominations for Aronofsky’s directing, alongside Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem’s individual performances.

It’s a collective fall from grace for three of Hollywood’s most revered names.

Even Anthony Hopkins received a nomination for not just one but two of his roles this year (Collide and Transformers: The Last Knight).

In their noble effort to create a horror film that really makes you think, the trio have ended up on the list of undesirables next to a glorified phone commercial (The Emoji Movie), another Michael Bay flick and Tom Cruise’s version of The Mummy, AKA that movie with the actual line, “Thanks for bringing me back from the dead, dude.” It was muck.

The Golden Raspberry Awards were first staged in 1981 to commemorate the very worst in films.
