Here are the 5 best films on the telly tonight

Rory Cashin

Nic Cage. Simon Pegg. Jason Statham. Sometimes life is full of tough choices…

As per usual, we’re here to help you find the best films on the telly tonight, but before that, let us talk cinema.

In case you missed it, here is the latest episode of The Big Reviewski, in which we chat to the man himself Denzel Washington and review his new movie The Equalizer 2, which is released in cinemas this week.

Sitting in? Here ya go…

THURSDAY 16 AUGUST

Paul – ITV2 – 9.00pm

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are at Comic-Con in San Diego, and they happen across a crashed alien (voiced by Seth Rogen) who loves nothing more than getting high and drinking beer. They take it upon themselves to try to get him back to his home planet, but there are a few government agents who want to make sure he stays on Earth.

The Rock – RTE Two – 10.00pm

Nic Cage and Sean Connery have to break INTO Alcatraz, in order to stop a group of military members from dropping some serious bombs on San Francisco. Arguably Michael Bay’s best movie.

The Riot Club – Film 4 – 11.05pm

Sam Clafin (Adrift), Max Irons (The Host), Douglas Booth (Jupiter Ascending) and more play some of the worst people you’ve ever met, having a college party funded by their overly rich and privileged parents, and using the night to do whatever they feel like. Which, obviously, leads down some very dark paths.

Crank: High Voltage – ITV4 – 11.40pm

The somehow-even-more-bonkers sequel to the already 101% bonkers original, with Jason Statham seeking revenge for those who done him wrong first time around. Except he is out-crazied by Bai Ling, who is clearly having the time of her life here.

10 Cloverfield Lane – Film 4 – 1.15am

Mary Elizabeth Winstead wakes up in a bunker, told by John Goodman that outside the world has ended and he has saved her life. But she isn’t convinced that the potential dangers inside the bunker are any safer than the ones outside…

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
