Here are the 5 best movies on TV tonight

Wednesday night is movie night!

We’re not gonna lie.

Tonight’s picks are pretty weak.

There are still SOME watchable ones in here, but overall, it is some weak sauce.

Maybe go to the cinema instead? We’ve reviewed all the new releases right here, and some of THOSE are really, REALLY good.

But if you’re insisting on staying in, then this is what you’ve got to choose from:

WEDNESDAY, 12 JUNE

Someone Like You… – E! Entertainment – 8pm

We actually had to look this one up, because our brains had deleted it from our memory. Apparently it stars Ashley Judd and an early-career Hugh Jackman in a rom-com about a columnist who writes about the habits of men in relationships. So… pretty much How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days, but… not as good.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation – FilmFour – 9pm

The fifth one in the franchise. The one that BEGINS with Tom Cruise on the outside of a plane as it is taking off. Decent argument to be made as to whether or not it is the best of the lot.

The Vanishing – Syfy – 9pm

Kiefer Sutherland discovers that his girlfriend (Sandra Bullock) has been kidnapped by a madman (Jeff Bridges) and refuses to give up until he has got her back. Doesn’t quite have the bite of the French original, which had one of the best gut-punch endings of all time, but still a decent thriller.

Passenger 57 – TCM – 11.05pm

Wesley Snipes reminds us why we should always bet on black in this airplane hijack action thriller. There was a time when it felt like Snipes could save us from anything. Except for tax evasion, we guess…

Tyrannosaur – FilmFour – 11.35pm

Without a doubt the best film on tonight, but also the most difficult one to watch, as eventual Oscar-winner Olivia Coleman represents a chance at redemption for Peter Mullan, a man tormented by a history of rage and hate.

The directorial debut of Paddy Considine is good, but make sure you have several episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine lined up to watch directly afterwards so you don’t go to bed in the most depressed mood imaginable.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
