Here are the 5 best movies on TV tonight

Rory Cashin

die hard with a vengeance

Tuesdays are made for the couch. The couch plus a movie. A movie or five.

It is rainy and really we should be keeping our money for Christmas, guys!

Stay in, keep it cheap, and enjoy one of these five flicks on the box tonight, many of which aren’t the usual selection. There isn’t an Ashley Judd-thriller is sight!

TUESDAY 18 DECEMBER

Dark Shadows – SyFy – 8.00pm

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton reteam for the millionth time on this monster comedy about a family of vampires and werewolves and stuff who must adjust to the modern world. An all-star cast help make it a lot better than it could have been, especially the living legend that is Michelle Pfeiffer.

Love Actually – ITV2 – 9.00pm

Is it awful? Or is it amazing? We can’t seem to settle this one in the JOE office, but it is in the running for Best Christmas Movie Of All Time on our Twitter poll, so we’ll know soon enough how to feel about it.

Die Hard With A Vengeance – BBC One – 10.45pm

The second best Die Hard movie (don’t @ me) finds Bruce paired up with Sam Jackson to stop Alan Rickman’s terrorist/bank robbing brother Jeremy Irons. Almost more of a comedy than an action movie (it involves tidal wave surfing on a truck), and we’re kind of totally okay with that.

The Adjustment Bureau – ITV4 – 11.05pm

Matt Damon and Emily Blunt (who we love in the latest Mary Poppins movie, full review here) are two people who fall head-over-heels in love with each other, only for shady government people to do everything in their power to keep them apart. But why? Well, that is for you to find out over the course of the movie, silly!

Predestination – FilmFour – 11.15pm

Ethan Hawke is a time-travelling government agent who must attempt to stop a time-travelling terrorist from igniting an attack that will result in thousands of people being killed. Without spoiling too much, this movie has one of the greatest-but-least-talked-about twists in cinema history. Enjoy!

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
