Here are the 8 best movies on the telly tonight

Rory Cashin

Two amazing horrors, a hilarious comedy, and one of the best action movies of all time are in the mix tonight.

There is a lot fighting for you attention this weekend. New seasons of Daredevil and Making A Murderer, new cinema releases like Halloween and Goosebumps 2, and great older releases like A Star Is Born and First Man.

We cover them all in the latest episode of The Big Reviewski, which you can check out right here:

Not heading to the cinema? Then here is what is on offer on the small screen tonight:

SATURDAY 20 OCTOBER

X-Men: First Class – E4 – 9.00pm

The first of the prequels, with the perfectly cast McAvoy and Fassbender as young Xavier and Magneto. Kevin Bacon is also having a blast as the twisted villain.

Runaway Jury – TG4 – 9.20pm

Rachel Weisz, John Cusack, Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman, and Jeremy Piven star in this adaptation of a John Grisham law thriller bestseller, dealing with a lawsuit against a gun manufacturer following a workplace shooting.

Terminator Genysis – RTE Two – 9.25pm

Out of the five Terminator movies, this one might be the … fifth best one? But at least the explosions look good.

Scream – W – 10.00pm

“Do you like scary movies?”

South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut – Comedy Central – 11.00pm

Did you know this movie was nominated for an Oscar? Yep, ‘Blame Canada’ was up for Best Original Song. Although we still think it is only the second best song in the movie, after ‘Kyle’s Mom Is A Big Fat B’.

The Rock – Universal TV – 11.10pm

Nic Cage and Sean Connery need to stop former soldiers from blowing up San Francisco, by breaking into the unbreakable-out-from prison where they’re keeping their weaponry. Still one of the best action movies ever made.

Se7en – ITV4 – 11.15pm

Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman try to find a killer who is violently murdering innocent people in ways connected to the seven deadly sins. David Fincher drenches the whole thing in apocalyptic rain and shadows, and the one-two punch of the ending(s) ensures it remains one of the greatest thrillers of all time.

Insidious: Chapter 3 – Channel 4 – 11.35pm

Although it is called Chapter 3, it is actually a prequel to the first two Insidious (Insidioii?) movies, with a teenage girl sensing she may have the ability to contact the dead, and the gifted psychic who must protect her from the dark demons from The Further.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
