Alden Ehrenreich reveals that Han Solo is actually part Irish

Rory Cashin

Even in a galaxy far, far away, you can’t escape the Irish.

Dave Franco, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Miles Teller, Nick Robinson, Chandler Riggs, Rami Malek, Tom Felton, Logan Lerman, Ansel Elgort, Colton Haynes, and our own Jack Reynor were all apparently in the running to play the greatest scoundrel in the entire universe.

As we now know, it eventually went to Alden Ehrenreich, and if you’ve seen Solo yet, then you know any fears of him filling in for Harrison Ford get erased pretty quickly.

We here in JOE think Ehrenreich was a highlight of the movie – check out our long-read review right here – and we were lucky enough to sit down with the actor in the lead-up to the release of the movie.

The conversation ranged from taking showers with wookies, comparing Chewbacca impressions, and Ehrenreich says that Ireland is the number one place he wants to go that he has never been to. YET.

He also reveals that he did an ancestry DNA test, and it turns out that he – and therefore, Han Solo! – is actually part Irish!

You can also check out our interviews with Ehrenreich’s co-stars, including Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, the movie’s director Ron Howard, and The Queen Of Dragons herself, aka Emilia Clarke, right here:

Meanwhile, Solo: A Star Wars Story is in cinemas right now, and you can check out the trailer below:
