Our TV movie pick for tonight (Tuesday, 8 July) is Another Round, the Oscar-winning Danish comedy-drama.
Released in 2020, the film - also known as Druk - stars Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, Riders of Justice) as one of four secondary school teachers, all dissatisfied in different ways with their lives, who decide to embark on an experiment.
This is to consistently consume alcohol on a daily basis to see how it affects their social and professional lives.
While at first their lives change for the better, the experiment winds up having unintended consequences.
Co-written and directed by Thomas Vinterberg (The Celebration, Familes Like Ours), Another Round was widely acclaimed and holds a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
In particular, the movie's great premise, its stunning performances, its blend of riotous comedy and devastating drama, and its show-stopping finale were singled out for praise.
It even went on to win the Best International Feature Film award at the Oscars, while Vinterberg was nominated at the Academy Awards in the Best Director category.
A US remake of the comedy-drama involving Chris Rock and Leonardo DiCaprio is also said to be in the works.
Another Round is airing on TV tonight/tomorrow morning on Film4 at 1.35am. The movie is also streaming on Mubi and should be available to watch on Channel 4's website after it airs.
