Ariana Grande lands sixth Irish number one with Petal

Ariana Grande dominates as Glen Hansard climbs

According to the Irish Recorded Music Association, the record is the US singer's sixth number-one album in Ireland, as RTÉ reported.

Petal, released on 31 July, is Grande's first album through her own Babydoll Music imprint, under exclusive licence to Republic Records.

The 12-track record was co-written and executive produced by Grande and longtime collaborator Ilya Salmanzadeh, with Max Martin contributing to three tracks.

She also has three songs in this week's singles top 20: lead single Hate That I Made You Love Me at number eight, the title track Petal at number nine, and Kiss Me at number 19.

There was a poignant movement lower down the chart too.

Falling Slowly, the Oscar-winning song from the film Once, climbed 25 places from number 32 to a new peak of number seven, following Glen Hansard's death last month.

Hansard died on 29 July at the age of 56, and his funeral took place at St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Olivia Rodrigo slips to number two, with Michael Jackson's The Essential at three and Irish group Amble climbing to number five.
