Bad Sisters actress on playing a young Sharon Horgan and possible season 3 return

The rising star also spoke about her love of the Dublin acting scene and a big sequence in the hit series that did not make the cut.

For one thing, she has earned rave reviews for her first lead movie role in Irish boxing thriller Swing Bout. But also, her theatre work at the Abbey and her upcoming part in the much-anticipated video game The Witcher IV also helped land her on The Irish Times' '50 people to watch in 2025' list.

JOE recently interviewed Berkeley about Swing Bout, which is now available on digital download. You can check out her comments about that film here.

During the conversation, we also asked the rising star about her role playing the younger version of Sharon Horgan's character Eva in Bad Sisters season two.

Berkeley appeared in the emotional closing moments of season two, which cut between Eva and her sisters as teens having fun at Dublin's Forty Foot and the sisters as adults experiencing a more bittersweet moment at the same iconic location.

JOE asked the actress what her experience on the hit Apple TV series was like. In particular, we were curious if there were any scenes and footage involving Berkeley that were not used.

In response, she said:

"That was a really tricky one. I don't know if all of it was used in the end. But there was a big sequence in the actual sea at the Forty Foot, where one of the sisters is drowning, and then I'm pelting it over in the water to save her.

"That was extremely difficult to shoot because everyone is in the water, the whole camera crew, all of the lifeguards helping you offside. And then there's a huge team waiting to make sure that everything is still going according to plan.

"So that took a couple of weeks of rehearsal for what ended up, I think, shooting for a five or six-minute scene or something.

"But it was really good fun because we got to meet Sharon and all the other brilliant actors who play the other sisters. So, yeah, it was a lovely vibe on that set."

At this year's IFTA awards, Horgan hinted at a possible season three of Bad Sisters, telling the press: "I think about plots all the time."

As such, we also asked Berkeley if she would be interested in returning as a young Eva, if needed for season three.

Giving an emphatic "yes", the actress then said: "I don't know what I'd have to do in order to get myself back on that show. It would be great. I would love that.

"Fingers crossed. We'll see."

Berkeley grew up in England, but is now based in Dublin.

Both her parents are from the Irish capital, and when the actress was looking to study English in college somewhere, they pushed her towards Trinity.

"I managed to get into Trinity and I've just been here ever since, since 2017," she told JOE. "I love Dublin. It's like my home."

JOE also asked Berkeley if it is exciting to be an actor based in Dublin.

After all, so many homegrown projects have been made in recent years, like Bad Sisters and Swing Bout.

Plus, lots of international productions have been coming to Ireland to film.

On this, she said:

"It is really exciting. And what's so nice as well is that the acting community here in Dublin is so tight-knit. You're always going to be working with at least one of your friends or someone you know at any one point.

"It's a very intimate and supportive community here. So it's a lovely place to be an actor, not least just for the opportunities that are constantly coming up here, but for the fact that it is a great artistic community here anyway.

"You feel really part of the scene, even if you're not booking work, which is great."

As mentioned above, Berkeley works across several different mediums. On top of film and TV, she also had roles in the Abbey Theatre productions Emma and Youth's the Season-?

She also performs improv comedy as part of the troupe Broad Strokes.

On whether acting across all these mediums is a conscious choice, the actress explains: "I mean, you also take whatever you can get at the same time.

"I didn't think theatre was going to be on the cards for a while because I was putting all my eggs into the TV and film basket. So when those came along, it was a really happy surprise.

"I got an audition for Emma through doing an improv show with Club Valentine. Claire O'Reilly, the director of Emma, was such a legend and was scouting new talent. She just wanted people who were really good craic in that show. So she was going to lots of comedy shows to see who she liked and all that buzz.

"So it's funny that through Broad Strokes, those kinds of opportunities can come about."

She added: "I think many actors in Dublin try and spread themselves super thinly over loads of different creative fields anyway, because like I was saying, it's such a gorgeous, tight-knit community that something's bound to come through all the time.

"It's lovely to be delving into lots more things. So I'm really glad to have had the opportunity to do that stuff with the Abbey. It was really fun."
