The first trailer has hit the web for Ballad of a Small Player, the new Netflix thriller movie starring Oscar-nominee Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin).
Based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Lawrence Osborne (The Forgiven), the film sees the Irish actor play Lord Doyle, a high-stakes gambler laying low in Macau in China.
"When his past and his debts start to catch up with him, Doyle encounters a kindred spirit who might just hold the key to his salvation," the plot synopsis reads.
Ballad of a Small Player is director Edward Berger's much-anticipated follow-up to Conclave, the 2024 thriller that was a smash hit with both audiences and critics.

Before then, Berger made the Netflix war drama All Quiet on the Western Front, for which he received an Oscar nomination in the Best Adapted Screenplay category.
Also starring alongside Farrell in Ballad of a Small Player is Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton).
This is as writer Rowan Joffé (28 Weeks Later) has adapted Osborne's book to the screen.
The psychological thriller is scheduled to have its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival on 9 September.
Ballad of a Small Player will then be released in select cinemas on 17 October, before dropping on Netflix globally on 29 October.
