Bambi and Anaconda both announced to be getting the remake treatment

Not in the same movie, obviously…

Another day, another big screen remake.

Except we’re actually getting two this time, and from two very different ends of the Hollywood spectrum.

First up, Bambi, the Disney animated classic from 1942.

Considering the fact that The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty & The Beast, and The Jungle Book remakes of recent years have all made pretty much a billion dollars each at the box office, it should come as no surprise that Disney will continue to delve into its own back catalogue.

The original won three Oscars, and regularly appears on lists of movies guaranteed to make you cry your eyes out, and The Hollywood Reporter have stated that the screenwriters for Captain Marvel and the recent Tomb Raider reboot have been assigned to this particular re-do, but don’t expect to see it any time soon, as we’ve still got the remakes of Mulan (March 2020), 101 Dalmations (now retitled Cruella, May 2021), The Little Mermaid (2022), and more before then.

Elsewhere, THR are also reporting that Sony are looking into a remake of the 1997 creature feature Anaconda, the original of which starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, and Owen Wilson. It made a significant amount of money at the box office for a purposeful B-movie, and the studio have hired the writer of Snow White & The Huntsman and Divergent to bring the movie into a new millennium.

Apparently the inspiration for the new movie’s scope and scale is The Meg, which sounds like a pretty good goal to us.
