Barry Keoghan is set to lead Lemonade, an under-the-radar, low-budget Irish film shot in Dublin, with the first-look images and full plot details now revealed.
The feature, written and directed by documentary filmmaker Kim Bartley in her narrative debut, was shot earlier this year in the capital. Set amid Ireland’s care system, it is described as a story about “first loves, second chances and the power of human connection”, as Variety reported in an exclusive.
Details of the project had been kept firmly under wraps until now. The newly released first-look images showcase the cinematography of Colm Hogan (Oddity, Hokum), and offer the earliest glimpse of the drama.
Bartley’s move from documentary into narrative filmmaking, paired with one of Irish cinema’s most talked-about names, makes Lemonade one of the more intriguing home-grown projects on the horizon. That the shoot was completed quietly in Dublin earlier this year, with almost no advance publicity, only adds to the curiosity around it.
A release date and distribution plans for Ireland have yet to be confirmed. For more Irish film news, stay with us.
