Rookie of The Year is being remade

Rookie of the Year

There’s a very good chance that you really liked this as a kid.

Long before he started making toasts ‘to the next step’ in the American Pie films, Thomas Ian Nicholas was just a young kid with a dream of playing baseball.

Oh yeah, it also helped that after breaking his arm by slipping on a baseball, he developed superhuman strength that allowed him to pitch the ball like he was throwing a damn rocket.

Rookie of the Year is fluff, it’s throwaway, it was hated by the critics, but it’s a perfect film to watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

After getting a starting spot on the Chicago Cubs roster – why wouldn’t he? – baseball’s latest and youngest star has to come to terms with the pressures and trappings that fame and fortune can bring.

Well, prepare for even more ’90s nostalgia, as Deadline are reporting that Rookie of the Year is set for a remake.

The producer of the original film, Bob Harper, will be involved in the same capacity on the remake and the script is being written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand (Most Likely to Murder).

Rather surprisingly, the original film earned over $53 million at the domestic box office when it was released in 1993 and fun fact, it was directed by Daniel Stern (Marv in the Home Alone films).

Following the news that Space Jam and The Mighty Ducks are making a return, it’s clear that the appeal of sports films from the ’90s is alive and kicking.

We’re just going to point out that if Hollywood ever decides to remake Cool Runnings, we’re going to riot because you can’t improve on perfection.
