Ben Affleck confirms he is no longer Batman

It just didn’t really work out.

Throughout the Christopher Nolan trilogy, Christian Bale set the bar so high for Bruce Wayne that all future Batman actors will struggle to meet it.

Couple that with the DC extended universe struggling to find its feet while the Marvel Cinematic Universe goes from strength to strength, and it was always going to be tough for Ben Affleck to make it as the Caped Crusader.

The Gone Girl actor appeared as Batman on several occasions, including in Batman vs Superman and Justice League, as well as cameos in Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman.

Affleck confirmed on Twitter on Wednesday that he’ll no longer be tasked with keeping Gotham safe, and somebody else will be wearing the iconic mask. As for who that will be, well, we still don’t know…

What we do know is that Matt Reeves will be in the director’s chair. He’s best known for directing 2008 monster movie Cloverfield, as well as Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes.

Titled The Batman, we also now know that Reeves’ effort is going to land in cinemas on June 25, 2021.
