QUESTION: Who is the best Irish actor or actress of all time?

Rory Cashin

We are spoiled for choice when it comes to great Irish acting talent.

What with it being Paddy’s Weekend and all, we’re feeling pretty patriotic, and the conversation about best Irish actors of all time came up with the movie lovers in the JOE and Her office.

A few weeks back we asked you what you thought the best Irish movie of all time was, and the answers were unique and varied (and, in some cases, hilarious), but we imagine this week’s question will kick off an even more profound debate.

The conversation between The Big Reviewski peeps kicks off at 04:30 to 10:10 in the link below:

Laura answers first – before throwing some serious shade towards Liam Neeson (sorry Liam!) – by going with Cillian Murphy, and the fact that he has those eyes and those check-bones probably helped a lot.

Rory went next, and chose Saoirse Ronan. So young, and already three Oscar nominations in, we think it is fair to say that she is our (both Ireland’s, and this generation’s) Meryl Streep.

Next up, Eoghan went with Domhnall Gleeson, almost entirely because of his great bit part in The Coen Brothers’ remake of True Grit, and his random career choices and nailing every genre he finds himself in.

And finally, despite not being in the country, Paul still sent on his favourite actor, and went old school with Richard Harris, for his career spanning from The Field to Harry Potter. What a legend.

So tell us, who do you think is the best Irish actor or actress of all time?
