Hokum, a brilliant new Irish horror thriller starring Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation, Severance), is out in cinemas today (Friday, 1 May).
Ahead of its release, JOE interviewed the Hollywood star and the movie's director, Damian McCarthy (Oddity). As part of this, we asked them what their favourite Irish films are.
Scott named a classic historical drama, which was nominated for seven Oscars upon release. McCarthy, meanwhile, picked a forgotten rom-com penned by one of the country's best writers.
You can watch a video of the pair discussing their Irish movie picks above.
Hokum follows Ohm Bauman (Scott), a troubled American author, as he travels to a secluded forest in the Irish countryside to scatter the ashes of his parents, who once honeymooned in the area.
Staying in a nearby hotel, the writer initially wants to be left completely alone. Yet, he gradually finds himself pulled into a strange mystery involving the disappearance of one of the building's staff and rumours of an ancient witch haunting the honeymoon suite.
You can watch our full interview with Adam Scott and Damian McCarthy below:
JOE's review of Hokum called it "a new classic in terms of Irish horror thrillers", adding: "When Hokum embraces haunted house spectacle in its second half, as Scott's protagonist ventures deeper and deeper into the bowels of the hotel in search of answers, it's properly, hair-raisingly scary."
