But this isn’t Netflix’s fault. There’s just too much choice.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (IMDB rating: 7.4/10)

Netflix synopsis: Ranging from absurd to profound, these Western vignettes from the Coen brothers follow the adventures of outlaws and settlers on the American frontier.

JOE verdict: Starring Tim Blake Nelson, Brendan Gleeson, Liam Neeson, James Franco, this was never going to be anything but brilliant. Get on it.

Passengers (IMDB rating: 7.0/10)

Netflix synopsis: After waking from his hibernation decades ahead of schedule, a lonely passenger on an interplanetary journey decides to rouse a fellow traveller.

JOE verdict: A good movie that could have been a great movie; Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence do well in a film that will have you interested throughout.

Coach Carter (IMDB rating: 7.3/10)

Netflix synopsis: Controversial basketball coach Ken Carter puts school before sports and benches his undefeated high school team for poor academic performance.

JOE verdict: This is one that will definitely get you pumped, and is arguably one of the best sports movies of all time. If you’re in the mood for feeling inspired, this is the one for you.

Rogue One (IMDB rating: 7.8/10)

Netflix synopsis: A former thief leads an eccentric band, including a blind monk and an enemy robot, on a mission to steal plans for a powerful imperial space station.

JOE verdict: Arguably the best movie to come from the Star Wars universe in a really long time, it is essential watching for any fan of the movies. The final scene with Darth Vader will go down in history when it comes to badass character moments.

Superbad (IMDB rating: 7.6/10)

Netflix synopsis: Two best friends’ quest to buy booze for a party in the hopes of scoring with girls leads them on a series of wacky misadventures.

JOE verdict: We’re not exaggerating, Superbad is one of the funniest movies of all time. It also birthed stars in Michael Cera, Jonah Hill and Emma Stone, but if you haven’t seen this yet, you absolutely have to. If you watch it without laughing, we’ll genuinely be baffled.

The 34th (IMDB rating: 8.1/10)

Netflix synopsis: ‘The 34th’ tells the story of the driven and dedicated people who formed Marriage Equality in Ireland, and developed it into a highly effective grassroots force with one clear goal in mind – the extension of Civil Marriage to same sex couples.

JOE verdict: A brilliant documentary covering one of the prouder moments in recent Irish history. The 34th captures this impassioned and poignant journey from Katherine Zappone and Ann Louise Gilligan’s pivotal KAL case and the emotional love story behind it.

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (IMDB rating: 8.8/10)

Netflix synopsis: From the idyllic shire of the Hobbits to the smoking chasms of Mordor, Frodo Baggins embarks on his epic quest to destroy the ring of Sauron.

JOE verdict: Where it all started. The first film from one of the greatest movie sagas of all time. It’s long, but it’s worth it.

Operation Finale (IMDB rating: 6.6/10)

Netflix synopsis: In 1960, Israeli spies undertake a daring mission to capture notorious Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann and bring him to justice. Based on real events.

JOE verdict: Thrilling from start to finish. An exciting watch, despite the harrowing nature of the events that the movie is based on.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (IMDB rating: 7.5/10)

Netflix synopsis: Five intense crushes. Five soul-bearing love letters. She never planned to mail them. Now they’re out. Life, as she knows it, is over.

JOE verdict: If you’re not a fan of chick flicks, look away now. Quite a fun, romantic movie if you’re into that sort of thing, which we know you secretly are…

The Grand Budapest Hotel (IMDB rating: 8.1/10)

Netflix synopsis: Between the world wars, Gustave H, the concierge at a prestigious European hotel, takes a bellboy named Zero as a trusted protégé.

JOE verdict: A beautiful movie that we can only describe as a masterpiece. Wes Anderson at his very best.
