There has only been one 2023 release so far to make over $1 billion worldwide at the box office.
We’re now halfway through 2023, and we’ve had some absolutely huge box office hits at the cinema so far.
While there is sure to be plenty more before the year is over – Mission Impossible 7, Barbie, Oppenheimer, Aquaman 2, The Exorcist: Believer, Wonka, Dune Part Two, The Marvels – these have been all of the movies that have made of $100 million at the worldwide box office so far in 2023.
Below we’ve also added in their reported production budget, and the general rule of thumb is that whatever that number is, you double it for promotional costs, and then you can gauge how much – if any – profit has been made.
And keep in mind, some of these releases are still early into their cinematic run, so these are not the final box office numbers for all of them. So knowing all of that, here we go:
1. The Super Mario Bros. Movie – $1.336 billion (budget: $100 million)
2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 – $832 million (budget: $250 million)
3. Fast X – $690 million (budget: $340 million)
4. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse – $567 million (budget: $100 million)
5. The Little Mermaid – $503 million (budget: $250 million)
6. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania – $476 million (budget: $200 million)
7. John Wick: Chapter 4 – $428 million (budget: $100 million)
8. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts – $345 million (budget: $200 million)
9. Creed III – $275 million (budget: $75 million)
10. The Flash – $215 million (budget: $220 million)
11. Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves – $208 million (budget: $150 million)
12. Scream VI – $169 million (budget: $35 million)
13. Evil Dead Rise – $146 million (budget: $19 million)
14. Shazam! Fury of the Gods – $134 million (budget: $125 million)
15. Pathaan – $129 million (budget: $31 million)
16. Elemental – $128 million (budget: $200 million)
