Holding an 83% Rotten Tomatoes score, the ongoing show has a strong Irish connection.
The two seasons of Billy the Kid, the epic Western series created by Michael Hirst (Vikings), are now available to stream at home.
Accessible via MGM+, the show features rising star Tom Blyth (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) in the role of America’s most infamous outlaw.
It follows Billy the Kid – also known as William H. Bonney — “from his humble Irish roots, to his early days as a cowboy and gunslinger in the American frontier, to his pivotal role in the Lincoln County War and beyond”.
On top of this, the Western stars Daniel Webber (11.22.63) as Jesse Evans, another famous outlaw whose wild and reckless ways appeal to Billy.
Having premiered in 2022, Billy the Kid earned mixed reviews from critics but seems to have been well-liked by audiences.
Not only does it hold a high 83% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and an also respectable 7.3 IMDB score, the show has already been renewed for a third and final season.
This will see Billy pitted against Sheriff Pat Garrett (Alex Roe, Hot Summer Nights).
Speaking about the upcoming batch of episodes, Hirst said in a statement: “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to write the third and final season of Billy the Kid and bring this compelling saga to a close.
“Billy was famous for many things, not least his ability to escape from seemingly impossible situations. But now, as the Most Wanted Man in America, the odds are truly stacked against him.”
The final season of Billy the Kid will premiere later in 2025.
How to watch Billy the Kid
As for now, the first two seasons are available to stream on MGM+, which is accessible in Ireland as an add-on subscription to Prime Video.
For some reason, only the second season of Billy the Kid is currently available to watch on the RTÉ Player.
That said, if you know the history of the real-life outlaw, you may be able to dive in from the second season premiere.
