Black Hawk Down has one of greatest casts of all time but you’ll hardly remember them all

Paul Moore

An explosive film with a stellar lineup.

JOE had the opportunity to meet the incredibly likable Eric Bana to discuss Jim Sheridan’s latest feature and his career to date.

Aside from learning about his time filming in Dublin and love of Aussie rules football, the star of Chopper, Munich and The Hulk was more than happy to talk about one of his most famous films, Black Hawk Down.

He said: “It’s one of the few films that I can re-watch, which says a lot because I really can’t really sit through my films! Mainly this has to with the director because with this and Munich, they’re two films that if I’m flicking through TV, I find myself not turning them off.

“I’m still floored by the direction and the cinematography whenever I come across it (Black Hawk Down). It was an unbelievable experience to work on, I’ve got three or four really close friends from that shoot and it was because we were there for five months. All sharing a hotel corridor and trailer park, it was insane.”

If you haven’t seen Ridley Scott’s war epic then you’re in for a treat. The story revolves around the ’93 Battle of Mogadishu which saw 160 elite U.S. soldiers drop into Somalia to capture two top lieutenants of a renegade warlord. What unfolded is definitive proof that war is absolute chaos.

In the film, Bana played the stoic, silent and unshakable Sergeant First Class Norm “Hoot” Gibson, a member of Delta Force that was deployed to Somalia. The other cast members were as equally impressive and memorable. Can you remember all of these actors?
