Bong Joon-ho says if he could clone himself eleven times he would make a better football team than Arsenal

Shots fired from one of cinema's best.

Speaking to the British Film Institute about his latest release Mickey 17, which is about a man who is cloned over and over again as a disposable employee, Bong was asked what he would do if he could clone himself.

Speaking through an interpreter, the South Korean director replied: "I want eleven Bong Joon-hos to create a football club."

He then spoke English himself and added: "Much better than Arsenal."

This caused the interview to laugh and reply that Arsenal's North London rivals Tottenham "are the best team", especially given they have Bong's fellow countryman Son Heung-min.

Bong then replied, again in English: "North London!"

Football and cinema fans alike were quick to react to Bong's diss.

One Instagram user wrote: "Arsenal catching strays out of nowhere."

Another said: "Man couldn't rely on the translator to dis Arsenal so had to spit it out himself."

One fan commented: "The perfect English for the arsenal shade is sending me."

Someone else joked that Bong prefers Spurs, who have not won a trophy since 2008, as a way of keeping "all things balanced", with his success as a director.

They said:"Bong Joon Ho supports Tottenham because he believes like all in nature, all things must be balanced and he has won way too many awards and trophies."

It is not the first time this month that Bong has ruffled the feathers of some diehard fans.

Last week he told reporters that he would love to add a film to the Alien franchise, but as a musical.

His latest film Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinson, is a dark comedy sci-fi movie, so it is not impossible to imagine Bong intertwining genres.

The 55-year-old rose to stardom when his film Parasite won the Best Picture Award at the 2020 Oscars, making it the first foreign film to scoop the prestigious award.
