Aspiring actors will have a chance to learn from one of the very best.

Succession star Brian Cox is the latest celebrity to be recruited to teach a course on the online education platform BBC Maestro.

BBC Maestro sees an “eclectic mix of prestigious experts” offering extended and in-depth lessons filmed in 4K that viewers can watch and learn from within the comfort of their own home.

Previous celebrities to take part in the project include comedian Billy Connolly, director Edgar Wright, singer-songwriter Gary Barlow, Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio, author Lee Child, chef Marco Pierre White and record producer Mark Ronson.

Cox’s course will be titled ‘Acting’, with BBC Maestro saying it will “shine a spotlight on how to deliver award-winning performances, capture — and hold — an audience’s collective attention and embody a multitude of iconic characters.”

“Across his lessons, Brian will direct aspiring actors through practical exercises designed to help them master both stage and screen,” the educational platform adds.

“Lessons will delve into character development, script analysis and the essential techniques to take into their next audition.

“The course will include a discussion of the key components of acting, insights from a casting director and a practical workshop led by Brian to help current drama students hone their craft.”

In a statement, Cox said he is “thrilled” to get to share his passion for acting with a wider audience.

“As an actor, you’re there to interpret the script. It’s only by examining, and fully understanding, the script that you can then have the freedom to develop an intuitive style and deliver every line with authenticity.

“I hope the advice I share will help you find your place within the industry and provide the skills needed for a decades-spanning career.”

Along with playing Logan Roy, the billionaire patriarch of the dysfunctional family at the heart of Succession, the actor is also known for his roles in the movies 25th Hour, Adaptation, The Bourne Identity, The Boxer, Braveheart, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Manhunter, The Ring, Rushmore, Troy, X-Men 2 and Zodiac.

He will also be appearing in Prime Video’s upcoming James Bond adventure reality series 007’s Road to a Million.

Brian Cox’s course will be available later this year via bbcmaestro.com. Individual courses on the platform can be purchased for £79 (around €92) while an annual subscription costs £120 (around €140).
