Bushwick, a very underrated action thriller starring Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy, Knock at the Cabin), is airing on TV tonight (Saturday, 3 January).
Released in 2017, the movie depicts New York City being invaded by a mysterious and heavily armed militia.
In the midst of the conflict, a quiet and stoic war veteran (Bautista) forms an unlikely alliance with a young graduate student (Brittany Snow - Murdaugh: Death in the Family, The Beast in Me).
This is as they work together to rescue family members and reach a civilian evacuation point.
Written by Nick Damici (Cold in July, Stake Land) and directed by duo Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion (Becky), Bushwick did not get a cinema release in Ireland but is well worth seeking out for several reasons.
Milott and Murnion capture the movie's action in a series of single takes, cleverly edited together to look like one continuous tracking shot, an approach that better immerses viewers in the film's terrifying central situation.
Also, Bushwick was early proof that the now beloved Bautista could lead a movie.
Plus, without spoiling, the political elements of the film's story have become increasingly relevant, with the 2017 flick even sharing some similarities to the recent hit action thriller Civil War.
Bushwick is airing on TV tonight on the channel Legend Xtra at 11.15pm. It is also available to stream for free on the service Plex.
