One of the best Western movies ever made is on TV tonight

Starring two Oscar-winners, the film is also available to stream.

The buddy film revolves around Butch Cassidy (Oscar-winner Paul Newman, The Color of Money) and the Sundance Kid (Oscar-winner Robert Redford, Three Days of the Condor), a pair of outlaws living in 1890s Wyoming as the West becomes rapidly civilised.

Pursued by a posse after a string of robberies, the duo - along with the Sundance Kid's lover Etta Place (Katharine Ross, The Stepford Wives) - decide to flee to South America in hopes of evading the law.

Based loosely on true events, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is now considered an all-time classic thanks to the chemistry between its two stars, the movie's music from Burt Bacharach and the film's iconic ending.

The Western was obviously important to Redford, who later reunited with Newman and director George Roy Hill for the Oscar Best Picture winner, The Sting.

Redford was also one of the founders of the annual major indie movie event, the Sundance Film Festival. The festival got its title from the character that the actor played in the oater.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is airing on TV tonight on BBC Four at 8pm, as part of a double bill with another Redford classic, the journalism thriller All the President's Men.

The Western is also currently available to stream on Disney+.
