Robert De Niro in a mobster movie? That can only be a good thing, right?

Talented French director Luc Besson (Léon: The Professional, Nikita, The Fifth Element) returns with The Family. It tells the story of the Manzonis – a mafia boss, his wife, son and daughter who are relocated to France under the witness protection program after snitching on the Mob back in the States. You snitching silly billys.

Check out the excellent trailer below which mixes elements of The Godfather Part II (Mafia boss walks streets to greet locals), Goodfellas (older mobster recalling his hitman days) and The Untouchables (someone gettin their brains bashed baseball bat style).

And the one man tying all four films together? Mr Robert De Niro, The Family guy.

The film also boasts an excellent supporting cast in the form of Michelle Pfeiffer and Tommy Lee Jones and, from this early trailer at least, looks like it will be an great blend of action, comedy and crackin’ tunes.

Keep an eye out for John D’Leo too, who looks like the perfect choice to play a mini-De Niro, (fake) mole and all.

Speaking of crackin’ tunes, no Robert De Niro article would be complete without the inclusion of the great Adam and Joe ditty, ‘Bobby De Niro.’

You’re welcome, earworm lovers…
