Well, this is just great news.

Well, this is just great news.

Farrell yesterday confirmed to the Sunday World that he had signed up for a role in the award-winning HBO series, telling the paper: “I’m doing the second series. I’m so excited.”

Speculation linking Farrell with a role in the gritty detective series had been doing the rounds for some time but the producers have done a decent job of keeping tight-lipped about what exactly is going to happen and who is going to be involved when the second season returns.

Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, who complemented each other so well in Season One, will not be returning in acting roles but are set to remain on as executive producers, while rumours have also suggested that Taylor Kitsch (Tim Riggins from Friday Night Lights) will appear alongside Farrell in a recreation of the older/younger cop dynamic from the first series.

Season Two is reportedly going to be based in California rather than Louisiana and a whole host of well-known actresses have been linked with roles, including Jessica Biel, Jaimie Alexander and Rosario Dawson.

We can’t wait to see how it turns out.
