WATCH: Last Week Tonight explains why concert tickets have become so expensive

Rory Cashin

He also dives in on why they’ve become so difficult to actually purchase, as well as what can possibly be done to rectify the situation.

Normally, John Oliver tackles some pretty heady topics week on week during his show Last Week Tonight, with recent episodes dedicated to the likes of homelessness, Taiwan, sex work and wrongful convictions, but the target of his latest episode is likely to be something that absolutely everybody has dealt with first hand at one point or another.

Over the course of his Tickets episode, Oliver gets to the centre of why everyone has been asking lately “Why are concert tickets so expensive?”, especially when compared to the increase in the average cost of living.

Additionally, the show goes in on why some tickets to some gigs have been so bizarrely difficult for fans to actually get their hands on, and while ticket touts and bots are very much a part of the problem, they definitely aren’t the only problem.

Oliver also discusses the potential for a fix to this specific issue that fans are facing whenever their favourite artists come to town, but also uncovers why so artists might not actually be in particular rush to fix that problem…

You can watch the Tickets clip below. Meanwhile, the full episode is available with your NOW Entertainment Membership, and new episodes of this season of Last Week Tonight are added every Monday.
