Dead Man's Wire, a 2026 crime thriller with an all-star cast, is now available to stream at home.
Accessible through the service NOW, the movie is directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Gus Van Sant (Elephant, Good Will Hunting, To Die For) and is based on a true story.
Believing that Richard's vacationing father M.L. Hall (Oscar-winner Al Pacino - The Godfather, Heat) cheated him out of potential profits, Tony takes Richard hostage, wiring a shotgun to his neck as a dead man's switch, rigged to fire if Richard tries to escape or anyone interferes.
As the situation quickly escalates into a days-long police standoff (with an unrecognisable Cary Elwes, playing the lead cop on the case), Tony demands $5 million and a personal apology from M.L.
The film shines a spotlight on a fascinating, stranger-than-fiction real events, while also paying homage to '70s thrillers like Dog Day Afternoon and Network, classics that touch on similar themes.
Van Sant captures the feel of the era perfectly through gorgeously grainy, gritty visuals and a phenomenal period-appropriate soundtrack.
The performances are also excellent. While Skarsgård is the standout - making Tony terrifying, comic, and sympathetic, often all at once - Pacino has a phone call scene mid-way through the story that serves as an electrifying reminder of what a great actor he is.
Holding a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score, Dead Man's Wire is currently streaming in Ireland and the UK on the service NOW.
Dead Man's Wire's cast also includes Colman Domingo (Disclosure Day), Kelly Lynch (Van Sant's Drugstore Cowboy), and Myha'la (Industry).
