Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we're taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for Detective Pikachu.Plot's It All About: Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear...
They often tell you not to judge a book by its cover, and the same rules apply for movies and their trailers. Thinking back to some recent comedies that had terrible trailers and ended up being pretty damned funny: Game Night and Blockers immediately come to mind.
So that could be what is happening here, the first trailer more of a vehicle to get across the plot - the screaming boy from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is both trying to figure out who killed his father, and also a kind of Doctor Dolittle for Pokemon, able to hear what they're actually saying - with Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu... who is also.. a detective?
It is a lot to get across in two minutes, which is probably why there was no time left over to get in any actual jokes.
No, scratch that... any actually funny jokes. There are jokes in this trailer, but they are NOT funny.
But then none of the jokes in the trailers for Game Night or Blockers were funny, and they ended up being very funny movies. So fingers crossed this is just another case of Bad Trailer/Good Movie...
