It sees an Irish actor stepping into the iconic lead role.
JOE wrote about how people were calling the crime thriller series Dexter “one of the best shows ever” after its eight seasons were added to Netflix recently.
Well, those fans are now in luck as a prequel about Dexter Morgan – the forensic technician who lives a parallel life as a vigilante serial killer – has just been released.
Titled Dexter: Original Sin, the show sees Irish actor Patrick Gibson (Shadow and Bone, The OA) play a younger incarnation of the anti-hero.
Ahead of its release, streaming service Paramount+ said the prequel over 10 episodes will “chronicle America’s favourite serial killer…in training.”

“Set in 1991 Miami, Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter (Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer,” the plot synopsis reads.
“When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Christian Slater, Mr. Robot), he adopts a code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar.
“This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”
The show also sees original Dexter actor Michael C. Hall returning to voice the iconic inner monologue in Dexter Morgan’s head.
This is as the cast also includes Molly Brown (Evil) as Dexter’s younger sister, Debra Morgan, as well as Christina Milian (Pulse), Joe Pantoliano (The Matrix), Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy) and Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy).
Dexter: Original Sin’s first episode is now available to watch on Paramount+.
The rest of its 10 episodes will be released weekly on Fridays on the streaming service.
