This would be a great move.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 has been stuck in production hell since the director of the first two movies, James Gunn, was fired by Disney for some controversial old tweets. The project is currently on hold, indefinitely.

The cast of the franchise — including Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista and Vin Diesel — have all voiced support for Gunn and said they’d like to see him make a return to the director’s seat.

That’s unlikely to happen though, seeing as Gunn immediately took over DC’s Suicide Squad 2 project.

Failing that, however, it seems like Disney have a good back-up plan.

Adam McKay, the director behind comedy classics such as Step Brothers and Anchorman, has revealed that he’s been approached over taking over the reins of GOTG3. McKay has far more than one string to his bow, and also directed the financial crash movie The Big Short — and is behind this year’s political drama Vice, about former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Asked during an interview with Happy Sad Confused whether he’d been approached over the movie, he said: “We’ve talked a little bit, yeah. We’re always kind of talking. I think Feige is just the greatest and what they’re doing there is amazing.”

Just say yes, Adam.
