Our pick for tonight (Sunday, December 14) is Donnie Brasco, the 1997 crime drama starring Al Pacino and Johnny Depp.
The film focuses on an FBI undercover agent (Johnny Depp) who infiltrates a New York crime family in the ’70s under the alias Donnie Brasco.
However, the job grows more difficult by the true friendship that develops between the undercover agent and an older mobster (Al Pacino).
Based loosely on true events, Donnie Brasco’s great script and terrific cast – including the late Anne Heche – help make it a tense and surprisingly emotional crime drama.
The New York Times called the film "a sharp, clever encounter, overturning all manner of genre cliches and viewer expectations... and the best crime movie in a long while, is full of similar surprises as it leads Mr. Pacino and Johnny Depp through a fine-tuned tale of deception."
