Eddie Murphy to play Axel Foley once again as Beverly Hills Cop 4 is announced

It will either be brilliant or complete and utter waste of time.

Eddie Murphy will star in a fourth Beverly Hills Cop film, with Paramount Pictures announcing a release date of March 25th 2016.

Here’s the blurb as Murphy prepares to crack wise back in the big bad world of his native city…

‘The ultimate “fish-out-of-water” franchise takes Axel Foley, who has been living a cushy life as a Beverly Hills Detective, back to the mean streets of Detroit during the coldest winter on record to navigate the new rules and old enemies in America’s toughest city.’

‘Beverly Hills Cop’ (they’re going back to the original title, as Hollywood tends to do a lot lately) was originally intended to be a new TV show, with Brandon T Jackson playing Axel Foley’s son.

That didn’t go beyond the pilot episode, but a cameo from Murphy persuaded producers that a fourth film would be a success.

Brett Ratner will direct, with Jerry Bruckheimer set to produce.
