We’re not crying, you’re crying.
Family Guy is better known for its low-brow humour and absurd antics than it is for heartfelt moments and touching tributes… but such was the depth of feeling inspired by Carrie Fisher, it seems that the show felt a duty to pay its respects.
Fisher had voiced a minor, recurring role in the show since its early days — Peter’s boss, Angela. She had starred in 25 episodes of the beloved Seth McFarlane cartoon.
Fisher died almost two years ago — on 27 December, 2018. She was 59 years old.
In Sunday night’s episode, Peter is giving the eulogy at Angela’s funeral, but is clearly speaking about Fisher.
“That was Angela — fearless, spontaneous, honest about herself just as much as she was about the world around her,” he said. “She had grace, courage and an unmatched zest for life. She may be gone, but her voice will live on in DVD and Hulu Plus and tiny droid-projected messages… I may have lost a boss, but heaven has gained a princess.”
Of course, this being Family Guy, the tear-jerking moment is quickly followed by Peter’s realisation that he is surrounded by Asian people, and speaking at the wrong funeral.
Still, this is a truly lovely tribute. You can watch below.
