Fan of The Wire? Dominic West’s face may be the reason there’ll be no prequel to the super show

Is it possible to be angry at someone’s mug?

Last year, rumours started circulating about a possible film prequel to HBO’s legendary show The Wire. One of the main backers for the idea was Wendell Pierce who played Bunk Moreland on the series.

The show’s creator, David Simon, was said to be returning to script the film that would be set in the Towers, as Stringer Bell and Avon Barksdale attempted to overthrow the drug lord in charge at the time. Oh yeah, who was supposed to play this so-called drug lord?

Oh, only feckin’ Samuel L. Jackson.

This sounded like the greatest idea we had ever heard; an origin story for Stringer and Avon with the baddest motherf*cker in the land? Yes please.

This was until it was shot down by Dominic West in an interview with The Daily Beast saying,

“There was constant talk of The Wire movie in the bar for five years, but nothing seemed to come about. I was talking to Wendell Pierce about it more recently because he was the driving force behind the movie idea, and we wanted David Simon to write it, obviously. But David Simon said, ‘It can’t be a sequel, it has to be a prequel. And that’s going to be all right for the black actors, but for the white ones, they don’t look younger than they did 10 years ago’ before adding in, ‘Whitey doesn’t look so good.”

Well damn your face aged, old “whitey” face West. Damn it to hell.
