Fans of The Untouchables will love Kevin Costner’s new gangster epic on Netflix

Paul Moore

Highwaymen

This has serious potential.

Sean Connery may have won the Oscar for his portrayal of Jim Malone in The Untouchables, but it was Kevin Costner’s character Eliot Ness who delivered the final insult to Al Capone (Robert De Niro) as he was sentenced to prison in Brian De Palma’s beloved film.

“Here Endeth the Lesson,” is what Costner said to the mobster after taking him down, and in strictly acting terms, Costner now has his eyes on taking down two other infamous outlaws, Bonnie and Clyde.

The outlaws made headlines. The lawmen made history.

From director John Lee Hancock (The Blindside), The Highwaymen follows the untold true story of two former Texas Rangers (Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson), who brought down Bonnie and Clyde.

Kevin Costner plays legendary lawman Frank Hamer and Woody Harrelson is his long-suffering sidekick Manny Gault.

When the full force of the FBI and the latest forensic technology aren’t enough to capture the nation’s most notorious criminals, the two former Texas Rangers must rely on their gut instincts and old school skills to get the job done.

Though both men were out of the Rangers by the time Bonnie and Clyde started their robbery reign, Frank Hamer and Manny Gault were commissioned as special investigators, coaxed back by a consortium of banks to assemble a posse and end the robbery spree of the notorious gang, who are reported to have killed 13 law enforcement officials and others.

The Highwaymen is available to watch on Netflix from 29 March 2019.

If it’s even half as good as The Untouchables, we’re in for a treat.
