WATCH: Five Days at Memorial could be this year’s Chernobyl

Rory Cashin

This looks absolutely riveting.

Three years ago, HBO adapted the events of the Chernobyl disaster into an all-star drama, overflowing with nail-biting tension and absolute horror, made all the scarier because we knew all of this actually happened.

This year, it looks like Apple TV is looking to do something very similar with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, which we’ll see in terrible detail in Five Days at Memorial.

Based on the 2013 non-fiction book of the same name, the mini-series focuses on the difficulties faced by a single New Orleans hospital once the massively devastating weather event had passed through the area.

The show is being adapted and directed by John Ridley (12 Years A Slave, American Crime) and Carlton Cuse (Lost, The Strain).

Meanwhile, the stellar cast includes Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring), Adepero Oduye (The Big Short), Cornelius Smith Jr. (Whitney), Julie Ann Emery (Better Call Saul), Cherry Jones (24) and Michael Gaston (Mad Men).

Five Days at Memorial kicks off on Apple TV+ from Friday, 12 August.
