Game of Thrones: Fans react as Jon Snow is finally [REDACTED]

Si Lloyd

Okay, you know the drill.

Game of Thrones is back. The first episode of the final season airing in the small hours of Monday morning, Twitter is already abuzz with the latest happenings from Westeros.

Not everyone has seen it yet, however, meaning it’s our duty to make very clear to you, dear reader, that what follows contains spoilers:

Got that? Good. Then let’s crack on…

Remember season 7? In truth, we wouldn’t blame you if you’d forgotten some of the details. After all, nearly two years have slipped by since GoT’s penultimate season ended.

But even if your memory is a little hazy about some aspects of the show, we’d be willing to bet a lot of money that the revelation of Jon Snow’s true heritage is one of the things that has stuck in your mind.

Jon, for anyone that is in need of a recap, is the son of Ned Stark’s sister, Lyanna, and Rhaegar Targaryen, the older brother of Daenerys. This is a pretty big deal. Not only does it make him the true heir to the Iron Throne, it also means he unknowingly had sex with his auntie at the last season (something which plenty of fans believe could be significant for what follows).

While fans of the show have had to stew on this for the best part of the last couple of years, episode one of the final season was the first time Jon finds out about his complicated bloodline.

Samwell Tarly, under instructions from Bran Stark, tells Jon. This happens after Sam learns that Daenerys murdered his father and brother after they refused to pledge their allegiance to her in season 7.

Clearly, this is a seminal moment; one that prompted considerable excitement from those staying up late enough to watch it happen.
