GamesMaster reboot Trevor McDonald

A worthy successor for the beloved video game show.

Following the exciting news last month that GamesMaster – aka the greatest TV video game show of all time – is officially coming back, we now know just who will serve as the face of the reboot.

None other than legendary UK broadcaster Sir Trevor McDonald.

You’ll of course know McDonald from over five decades of reporting news on ITV via his signature dulcet tones.

He’s also fronted many documentaries and only recently hosted a special episode of Countdown.

Deadline reports that McDonald will inherit the mantle from Sir Patrick Moore, setting up and wryly commenting on the various challenges that the show’s players will face.

McDonald will co-host the reboot – set to premiere on YouTube before making its way to E4 – alongside Scottish comedian Robert Florence, esports expert Frankie Ward and E4 ‘face of the future’ Ty Logan.

In confirming his participation, 82-year-old McDonald said he is “delighted to be taking on this iconic role for a new generation of viewers”.

The original iteration of GamesMaster ran on Channel 4 from 1992 until 1998 and was hosted primarily by Dominik Diamond, though actor and director Dexter Fletcher stepped in for a brief stint.

A release date for the new series has yet to be announced.
