George R.R. Martin Nightflyers

Nightflyers, written by the Game of Thrones creator, will be filmed in Limerick.

This is huge news for the TV and film community in Limerick as another potentially massive series comes to Ireland.

Nightflyers, the television adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s sci-fi novella, is set to be filmed in Troy Studios later this year.

IFTN is reporting that a pilot and season one will be filmed over a 16-week period in the south-west, and it will mark the first time the 350,000 square foot Troy Studios opens its doors to an international production for the first time.

Martin, of course, is the man whose ‘A Song Of Ice And Fire’ novels would go on to be filmed as the mildly popular series Game of Thrones, which you may have heard of here and here and here and here and… you get the message.

Nightflyers is expected to draw a cast and crew of more than 500 people, making it one of the biggest productions ever to take place in the Republic of Ireland.

The 30,000-word novella on which the series is based was originally written in 1980, and is set in the same ‘Thousand Worlds’ universe as many of Martin’s other published works.
