Based on a true story, the film holds a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Our TV movie pick for tonight (Sunday, 29 March) is Good Vibrations, the wonderful 2012 Irish comedy drama.

Set amidst The Troubles in Northern Ireland in the late '70s, the film is a biopic of music legend Terri Hooley (played by Richard Dormer, Fortitude), who is known as "the Godfather of Belfast punk".

The movie depicts Hooley, a fanatical music lover, opening up a record shop on a Belfast road notorious for bombings, naming it 'Good Vibrations'.

Discovering a compelling voice of resistance within the city's nascent underground punk scene, he later starts an indie record label, which helps bring the legendary single 'Teenage Kicks' by Derry band The Undertones to the masses.

Hooley also winds up becoming the unlikely ringleader of a band of young musical rebels, setting out to create a new community free of the decades-old hatreds that are splitting their city apart.

Directed by Lisa Barros D'Sa and Glenn Leyburn (the upcoming movie Saipan about Mick McCarthy and Roy Keane's feud), Good Vibrations' cast also includes Adrian Dunbar (Line of Duty), David Wilmot (Intermission), Dylan Moran (Black Books), Jodie Whittaker (Doctor Who), Killian Scott (Love/Hate) and Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones).

Thanks to the film's lovable lead turn by Dormer, its energetic direction, its banging soundtrack and its heartwarming story about the importance of art in times of struggle, the biopic has a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Famed critic Mark Kermode also named the comedy-drama his favourite movie of 2013.

Good Vibrations is airing on BBC One tonight at 12.05m.
