Graham Linehan says he will never write new episodes of Father Ted

The suggestion has been made, and thankfully the writer turned it down.

Graham Linehan says that he will never write new episodes of ‘Father Ted.’

Linehan and Arthur Matthews penned the series that ran for 25 brilliant episodes between 1995 and 1998.

‘Father Ted’ is still a regular on our TV screens almost 20 years after it first aired, and Linehan doesn’t think anything could be gained from resurrecting it.

With Dermot Morgan having passed away 16 years ago last week, the show’s creator was asked if he would ever think about bringing Ardal O’Hanlon’s Dougal back to Craggy Island.

Thankfully for those of us who are happy to leave well enough alone, he said it would never happen.

Linehan explained, “I would never bring Dougal back. Someone suggested to me a way of doing it but I am totally a different person now. We have said everything we have to about the imaginary world of priests.”

Amen to that.
