A great underseen thriller is among the movies on TV tonight

Here’s the movies airing on the box this Saturday.

Kill Bill: Vol 1 – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

The first part of filmmaker Quentin Tarantino’s excellent martial arts epic, Kill Bill sees a former assassin (Uma Thurman) awake from a four-year coma and wreak vengeance on the team of assassins who betrayed her.

Wild Rose – Film4 – 9pm

Irish actress Jessie Buckley stars in this acclaimed musical drama about a young woman fresh out of jail who dreams of becoming a Nashville country star.

Legally Blonde – Comedy Central – 9pm

Reese Witherspoon plays a sorority girl who enrolls in law school in this much-loved comedy.

Last Christmas – RTÉ2 – 9.05pm

Co-written by Emma Thompson, directed by Paul Feig of Bridesmaids fame and inspired by the music of George Michael, this romantic comedy centres on a disillusioned Christmas store worker (Emilia Clarke, Game of Thrones) who forms a relationship with a mysterious man (Henry Golding, Crazy Rich Asians).

The Equalizer – Channel 4 – 9.25pm

Denzel Washington solidly reboots the ’80s show of the same name about a retired intelligence agent who uses the skills from his former career to exact justice on behalf of innocent people who find themselves in dangerous circumstances.

Frankie and Johnny – TG4 – 9.30pm

Scarface alum Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer reunite in this romantic comedy about two lonely, middle-aged people working in a diner.

Spring – Horror Channel – 10.50pm

In this terrific indie, a young man travels to Italy and elopes with a woman who, unbeknownst to him, harbors a dangerous secret.

An oddly compelling mix of romance and body horror ensues.

Cellar Door – RTÉ2 – 10.55pm

In this well-reviewed Irish drama, a woman searches for her son while in the grip of the church.

V for Vendetta – Turner Classic Movies – 11.15pm

This impressive graphic novel adaptation stars Natalie Portman and a masked Hugo Weaving as people living in an alternative future where a fascist totalitarian regime dominates the UK.

Bad Times at the El Royale – Channel 4 – 12.00am

Our pick for tonight follows six strangers (including Cynthia Erivo, Jeff Bridges and Jon Hamm) and an employee (Lewis Pullman) at a deserted hotel in the late ’60s over one night as alliances are made and secrets are revealed.

Boasting an ace cast (also including Chris Hemsworth), an awesome period-appropriate soundtrack and a twisty ever-changing plot, Bad Times at the El Royale feels destined to be a cult classic.

A United Kingdom – RTÉ One – 12.05am

David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike star in this biographical romantic drama.

The Raid 2 – Film4 – 12.55am

The sequel to the hard-hitting 2011 Indonesian action crime epic.
