Over a year before it arrives in cinemas, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 has already broken a world record

We’ll be seeing A LOT of the Guardians over the next twelve months.

Over a year before the movie will arrive in cinemas, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is already breaking world records.

Writer and director James Gunn took to Twitter to make the announcement:

Just heard from our makeup folks at @LegacyEffects that yesterday #GotGVol3 officially passed the World Record for ‘the most makeup appliances created for a single production’ (surpassing The Grinch). Congrats, guys! Thanks for keeping practical effects alive!”

As mentioned, Jim Carrey’s take on The Grinch had previously held the record since 2000.

It will have been a full six years since the last GOTG movie, with the third movie said to close out the story of these Guardians, with Gunn stating that a fourth GOTG movie maybe be in the works, but he would not be involved in it.

The third Guardians movie will see the return of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Groot (Vin Diesel), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Stakar (Sylvester Stallone), and will see the addition of Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), likely to be the film’s antagonist.

The plot of the trilogy closer is being kept top secret, as it will likely follow on directly from the events of Thor: Love and Thunder, which is set to arrive in cinemas in July 2022, and will see the Guardians teaming up with Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) to take on big new baddie Gorr The God Butcher (Christian Bale).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is currently scheduled to arrive in Irish cinemas on 5 May 2023, but before then, a 40-minute long project titled Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is due to arrive on Disney+ in December 2022.
