This follows last week's announcement that crime drama Kin will also be returning.

Hardy Bucks, the beloved Irish comedy series, will be returning for a new season, according to one of its stars.

The comedian and actor is from Mayo, the same county where Hardy Bucks is set. As such, Colgan was asked how the Hardy Bucks boys would celebrate Mayo winning its first All-Ireland football title in 75 years at the weekend.

In response, he said: "Well, we'll celebrate it by making a new season. Give us a new season."

He added: "Yeah, new one on the way, but this is not about us. It's about the Mayo team."

The hosts were surprised by Colgan's announcement, asking: "Is that just because of the result on Sunday?"

The actor then joked: "I went straight to the boys in RTÉ and I said: 'Give us another season.' They're like: 'Yeah, no bother at all.'"

Seeming to speak more seriously, he added: "We're making another season. Six more episodes on the way.

"So that's breaking news there now for you guys, taking a bit of the shine off the Mayo team."

Filmed in a mockumentary style, Hardy Bucks followed a group of 20-something slacker lads - including Buzz, Eddie Durkan, and Viper Higgins - in Castletown, Co. Mayo and "their attempts to find the craic".

Created in 2007, Hardy Bucks first aired as online webisodes before being picked up by RTÉ for several seasons.

The sitcom was such a big hit that it got the big screen treatment, with The Hardy Bucks Movie arriving in cinemas in 2013.

The show's last episode aired in April 2018, meaning it's been off the air for over eight years.

This news follows RTÉ confirming last week that its crime drama Kin will also return for a third season after a years-long hiatus.
