Iain Glen reveals if Jorah Mormont has any romantic future with Daenerys in Game of Thrones

Poor old Jorah.

Any chance for Lord Friendzone?

Much like contracting greyscale, spoilers can be very tricky to avoid on the Internet. Consider this to be your warning.

Aside from fighting zombie polar bears and an army of wights and getting to know Jon Snow, Ser Jorah Mormont must also have had a fair bit of time to contemplate his life choices while marooned on that frozen lake.

From the moment we’re introduced to Jorah the Andal, he was deeply in love with Daenerys Targaryen but as we all know in Game of Thrones, loyalty and love are usually followed by heartbreak and despair. While travelling through Essos with the Khaleesi, Jorah was simultaneously acting as a spy for Varys/King Robert. After his subterfuge was exposed, Jorah was exiled.

That’s the second time that he brought shame onto his name – he was previously exiled from Bear Island after engaging in the illegal trade of selling slaves.

After surviving his painful and gory battle with gresycale, Jorah is back in Dany’s good graces, but is he destined to remain ‘Lord Friendzone’ forever?

The arrival of Jon Snow would certainly indicate that he will; after all, the King in the North has definitely turned Daenerys’ head and with the with the season finale being called ‘The Dragon and the Wolf’, plenty of people have already speculated that there could be a new power couple in Westeros.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Iain Glen confirmed the news that his character no longer has any chance of hooking up with the Mother of Dragons.

After being asked if those scenes with Jon Snow were Jorah’s way of moving on, Glen said “I think so. I don’t know, but I do think in some way, emotionally, Jorah has moved on from hoping, really, for any physical reciprocation with Daenerys.

“His love for her and his adoration of her and her abilities and capabilities remain undiminished entirely. But I think having gone through the nightmare of her rejection, and then having gotten very dangerously ill, for her to offer her forgiveness and plead with him to find a cure for himself so he could be back by her side, I think having gone through that whole traumatic emotional revolution, he’s at a point where he’s just glad to be in the fold and back where he feels he belongs: beside her.

“I think there’s an element of him feeling, “You’re the man (Jon) to be guiding us forward. You’re going to be a part of the plan.”

Ahh, poor Jorah.

Anyways, there’s no time for love in Game of Thrones… the White Walkers and their army of the dead are on the move.
