IFTA nominations announced and it’s a fight to the death between the Gleesons!

Okay, not exactly a fight to the death, but father and son, Brendan and Domhnall Gleeson have both been nominated for Best Actor in a Film Lead Role. There is the expected plethora of Love/Hate nominations too. Lots of big hitters nominated in what has been a great year for Irish film and TV.

Okay, not exactly a fight to the death, but father and son, Brendan and Domhnall Gleeson, have both been nominated for Best Actor in a Film Lead Role. There is the expected plethora of Love/Hate nominations too. Lots of big hitters nominated in what has been a great year for Irish film and TV.

Brendan gets the nod for his role in Calvary and Domhnall for his part in About Time. The other nominees are Ciaran Hinds (pic below) for The Sea and Andrew Scott for The Stag. The Best Film category will be a hotly contested affair between Calvary, The Stag, Run and Jump, Byzantium and The Sea.

"The Night Alive" Off Broadway Opening Night - After Party

As expected, the brilliant Love/Hate has eight nominations across various categories, including Best Actor in a Leading Role TV, where Tom Vaughan-Lawlor will have his work cut out competing against Gabriel Byrne in Quirke, Chris O’Dowd in Moone Boy and Jamie Dornan in The Fall.

Love/Hate has two actresses in the Best Actress for TV category as Mary Murray and Charlie Murphy go toe-to-toe alongside Eva Birthistle for her performance in Amber and Deirdre O’Kane for Moone Boy.

We’re especially happy to see the excellent Irish Pictorial Weekly nominated in the Best Entertainment category as in this author’s humble opinion at least, it’s Irish satire at it’s biting best. More of this please!

The ceremony will take place on April 5th in The Doubletree by Hilton on the Burlington Road.
